About ADD and new tag in wikipedia.
[edit]In short, add a feature, to wikipedia that would show somehing like: THIS IS THEORY ONLY or INTERPETATION, IT CAN BE WRONG.
Couse while articles like ADHD are in 'did you know', then pepole can read this as some knowledg and assume that this is true while it only interpretation.
I'm concerend about that there is an easy way to interpretate someone as ADHD'ed becous language used in description is wide range: from [ADHD] " tasks or book reading begun but not finished before new projects or new books are started, leaving a never-ending to-do list" (its description of wikipedia)
or may be perceived as aloof over talkative? and wikiepdians was helping to spread thoes interetations.
When in wikiepdia there'll and visibe note that 'THIS is theory, CAN BE MADE UP' in all theries (like ego, high counscious, sub councious, religions, ADHD, end especialy about threatments for kids when i read TREATMENT: PROZAC work after 4 months, this are only speculations.
You go it? Its like talking that wikipedia was made becouse Galile discoverd some planets, other guy invented puzzles and know there is wikipedia with eartch like puzzle logo, irrevelat, seperated.
When wikipedians will add that feature i metniond then wikipedia will be sit that one can reffer, check up what true and practice and what is theory only.
I hope i are aware of pater, first some made up word ADD, then others made somthing positive from that while still beliving that they got somthing like ADD.
same: ego, super ego, alter ego, councoius, subcouncius, cosmic councious, all are banch of words and theories, and if in wikipedia there would be tag a every therory page this are only interpretation then wikipedia would be great.
Please do what you can to implement tag i mention and change wiki home page (add or delet ADHD links and notis)

[edit]I have added and will continue to add information about the controversial aspects of ADD/ADHD. I will also review the source and presentation of the hallmarks you found offensive.
I would respectfully point out that an ADD/ADHD diagnosis can only be made by licensed professionals. I have added the specific criteria they must follow as provided by another user. A reevaluation is required every 6 months, because people's brains change. I have personally seen many ADD/ADHD children diagnosed and treated and transformed into much happier and well-adjusted children, and go on to success as adults. Some of the school bus drivers I worked with have noted the changes and the found out the child was under treatment, since bus drivers generally don't get such information, and usually can only focus on problem kids. I have worked with crack-addicted babies and severally disabled children and adults. As para-professional educators, it is seldom we transport folk see success stories as good as those with ADD kids. Like Head Start, another program I strongly believe in, the cost of treatment is a great investment in saving money on prisons later.
Notwithstanding my personal POV, I will try to keep the article POV. Vaoverland 09:04, Apr 3, 2005 (UTC)
Black supremacy
[edit]I know you're probably helluh busy, but I like what you've done to the NOI talk page, and would like to invite your attention to black supremacy. As it stands now, I think the article is in decent shape NPOV-wise, but I think there's a revert war in the making. User:Wareware has been pretty much absent in the wake of my RfC against him, but I think at least one sockpuppet is/has been there in his stead. Certainly, the edit reverts are very like the kinds of things he has done in the past -- silly stuff, contesting nit-picky, obvious stuff and engaging in really awful, clumsy rewrites that are simply wrong-headed. (Frankly, I don't know if it's a result of ignorance or intentional obtuseness -- probably some of both.) I'm not requesting any specific action or intervention, or even suggesting that my edits are completely unassailable. Just asking you to keep an eye on the page, if you have time. deeceevoice 20:13, 3 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Actually, it seems my lengthy explanation in talk about the reasons (again) for reverting recent edits seems to have paid off. (I don't think people pay much attention to the edit notes accompanying individual changes.) I did recently, however, also delete a number of organizations from the black supremacist list, asking for documentation before they're reinserted. (It seems to me there's a tendency among contributors to confuse hate groups with supremacist ones.) This may cause some discord, but I'm hoping the group remains reasonable.
Thanks for staying tuned. deeceevoice 15:30, 5 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Good Work
[edit]I really like and agree with the changes you made to the ADHD article. Having read your talk page, I know that you, like me, suffer from this disorder. I'd like to recommend You Mean I'm Not Lazy, Stupid, or Crazy?. If you liked Driven to Distraction you will LOVE this book.
On a totally unrelated note, were you aware that you are marking all of your edits as minor? *Kat* 02:15, Apr 4, 2005 (UTC)
Nation of Islam
[edit]I checked Nation of Islam for the dispute you referenced. I saw a reference to what's-his-name's attempted insertions about a "Christian" viewpoint -- whatever that means. I didn't read his edits, though I recall at one point in the past seeing some text about how NOI teachings were antithetical ("hypocritical," I think, is the word used) to "their movement" or something to that effect, which not only struck me as off-the-wall, but incredibly naive, not to mention rather poorly written. And definitely POV, which is why I assume it was deleted. I skimmed the history for it, but couldn't find it or who wrote it.
At any rate, I weighed in on Firebug's comments about the NOI and Christianity. There's a long history of certainly black Christian clergy working with local NOI imams and national leadership in an amiable and collegial manner in interfaith alliances, confabs, community improvement efforts and the like. Further, even though the NOI is not exactly mainstream Islam, the enlightened Muslim tradition itself sees Christianity as a closely related religious tradition, as I comment in response to something Firebug wrote. I think I've addressed your question. If not, throw this back at me with more specifics, and I'll take a further look.
Thanks for the offer of the response tag, but no thanks. My page works just fine as is. When I said I liked what you'd done with Talk:Nation of Islam, I was merely referring to the request for input re: inclusion of the Beltway sniper incident in the article. At last check (early, early this a.m.), opinion seems to be running against inclusion, which surprises the hell outta me on a site like Wikipedia. Perhaps I don't give the folks here enough credit. deeceevoice 13:17, 4 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Attacks and threats from Firebug
[edit]Vaoverland, what can I do about User:Firebug's personal attacks and threats towards me? Wikipedia has an official policy of Wikipedia:No personal attacks and no threats. Further, our policy is that discussion pages are only for the contents of an article. They are not for someone's personal take on me and my work here. Firebug's anger does the article no good service, and his recent threat puts him in a bad light. The sad thing is that I have attempted to work with him in good faith, and have even agreed with some of his proposals. (See my recent comments on the article's discussion page.) Yet in return he treats me with nothing but hostility. I initially deleted his words, which were an attempt to poison the well and a violation of Discussion-page useage, and have deleted his threat. However, he recently restored his attacks, and is now threatening to report me for vandalism! That is just sad and unacceptable. Any thoughts? RK 17:37, Apr 5, 2005 (UTC):
BTw, I originally re-wrote something that I originally wrote to Firebug, and mistakenly didn't rephrase some sentences. I have since rewritten my (above) note. Sorry about that. RK 17:48, Apr 5, 2005 (UTC)
Nation of Islam edit war
[edit]Ugh, what a mess. Neither seems to be acting like 'model citizens', and their hasty reverts appear to be increasing the number of typos in the article. Both are prone to leaving fairly misleading edit summaries--Firebug: "cleanup grammar, wikify", but a whole sentence was removed, RK: "Removing biased and incorrect claims.", but one word was changed and the rest of the edit added text. I didn't find anything that seems to fall under any of the items listed under "Specific examples of personal attack include:" on the 'no personal attacks' page, let alone any threats, and, in fact, the strongest edit summary comment I found, "That is close to vandalism.", came from RK. Both seem attached to text I don't find very relevant: The fact that the ADL repeats the Philly quote doesn't add useful info--just cite the original source. However, "This position rests on the assumption that the Nation of Islam, with less than 40,000 members, is representative of over 14 million African-Americans. Most African Americans reject the idea that the NOI represents their political or religions beliefs." doesn't seem to add much (at least not in the context it's placed), either. I guess my recommendation would be for both to take a Wikibreak from editing Nation of Islam and related articles for at least a week (if not a month), and see if less strident editors can find a better balance. Niteowlneils 20:12, 5 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- I guess I hadn't checked the edit summaries in the NOI Talk page history, where most of the mud-slinging seems to have occurred. However, neither seems clearly in the right, both are being petulant, and I stand by my recommendation of a Wikibreak (from this topic) for both. Niteowlneils 20:20, 5 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Re: WM
[edit]B-) So what's this I hear about "live editing?"
I created {{Infobox SGRailroad}} based on {{Infobox Railroad}} today to standardize the gauge specification for standard gauge railroads. Less to type and a standard appearance for standard gauge. I only wish I could get it to work by passing through all of the other parameters to {{Infobox Railroad}} to make updating both of them easier (it must be my programming job rubbing off into my free time again). Oh well. slambo 23:56, Apr 5, 2005 (UTC)
About ADHD and Wikipedia meta tag.
[edit]Hello
You write that only profesionals can diagnose ADHD. Since profesionals use their manuals with wide range descriptions profesional can judge any one ia ADHDy, couse ADHD can be described as: starting new tasks and not ending them (its description of 99% wikipedians that are healthy).
And what about ""Theory ONLY tag". Eaven ADHD would be an real or lie wikipedians can provide strict tag that would explain that some articles are belive or theory only.
If someone would read about Christian God, and then about Juish God, then about Isarael God, then about Japanese God then you can imagine one would be a lot of confused since wikipedia would serve thoes articles like facts.
When there will be "this is theory only" or "This is what some people belive and can be wrong" tag then wikipedia would be more profesional.
Please contact other admionistartors with that idea.
PS. I'm honoured to be invited to register.
ADHD
[edit]I think one point that is getting missed is that for an ADHD diagnosis, the items on the checklist have to be present in more than 1 setting and have to be causing functional problems for the individual within the past 6 months for a ADHD condition of any type to exist. If you had everything on the checklist and your life was going great, no diagnosis. The degree anyof it is a functional problem for the person (not the convenience of teachers or parents) is a critical piece. I know there is a condition regarding brain wiring because I have it. Its just the same as a talent. Someone can be a wonderfully coordinated athlete, someone else a musical genius, etc. I am not ashamed of it, I just need to tend to it like I would any other part of my bod. If someone gets a diagnosis and doesn't like the meds, it probably ain't ADD/ADHD. Doctors can be wrong, and a lot of folks think that too many kids are misdiagnosed currently. Also, Dr. Hallowell says the next time around, the DSM will be changing the labels again, so maybe they'll call, it genius syndrome next, I dunno. To me it is a difference, OK, people are different. The important thing is how does the person's life go? Because the meds can help with the extremes. If everything in the person's life is OK, then it can't be ADHD by definition. Vaoverland 20:52, Apr 6, 2005 (UTC)
Individual
[edit]One great thing about the Internet is that you can find out more for yourself. It is true that many teachers don't keep the kids challenged enough. Most of mine sure as hell didn't. But, when you are the main one bored (look around) and seem to suffer more than everyone, maybe that's a flag to understanding yourself better. I was relieved to start understanding about ADD because I always thought something was wrong with me, (too lazy, doesn't try hard enough, doesn't care enough, etc.). Now I understand me better. Thats totally different than being forced to deal with doctors by family or school when you don't think anything is in need of improvement with yourself (or could be). Keep in mind , the ADD symptoms are not in the voluntary area of a brain, so it ain't willpower or desire that control them. Also, people with ADD are often poor at self observation, so that's kind of a catch-22 for diagnosing ourselves. Vaoverland 21:33, Apr 6, 2005 (UTC)
DYK
[edit]I love your DYK submissions, but with most of the suggestions coming from you it's hard to make a line-up that's not US-centered. Could you please take the time, occasionally, to seek out some articles by newbies and nominate them to encourage them to keep contributing. If I hadn't asked slambo the same, we'd still be swamped with railroad articles in every update. :)
I'd like to offer people as much different subjects as I possibly can. Again, I like your articles, and the occasional submission wouldn't hurt, but I really like to give others some space as well. Happy editing! Mgm|(talk) 19:55, Apr 9, 2005 (UTC)
I've consulted a few other sources and I've concluded that his name was spelled "Bedloe," so I moved the article. Hope you don't mind! (I wrote the original Petticoat Junction article; I loved that show!) Mike H 09:06, Apr 10, 2005 (UTC)

Dismal Swamp Canal
[edit]Hello. Please note that in the section headers "External links" and "Current use" the words "links" and "use" should begin with lower-case letters; see Wikipedia:Manual of Style. (I've fixed them.) Michael Hardy 22:28, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)
It's clear to me that you put a lot of work into this article, but I question some of the NPOV (On that cold and tragic day, Arland D. Williams Jr. exemplified one of the best attributes of human nature, specifically that some people are capable of doing "anything" for total strangers.) and redundancy in the related articles on the people (several of the articles on the people contain duplicate paragraphs). Rather than step on your toes since you are by-and-large the primary contributor, I figured I'd just point it out and let you do what you feel is prudent. Cheers. CryptoDerk 21:41, Apr 11, 2005 (UTC)

[edit]I have made a few edits to your contribution to the APD page. It was suggested sometime ago that i should make some contribution to this item, but maintaining and designing the APDUK web site has taken up so much time. I will drop by from time to time to add more. best wishes dolfrog
That is great. My personal version of APD seems to be more of a delay than a total block. I like your new website. Vaoverland 15:49, Apr 12, 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for the Barnstar
[edit]Heh. 46,000 edits over the course of four years, and I finally get a Barnstar for chopping pieces out of a group of articles I stumbled across by accident while on a year categorization spree. :) Thanks! Bryan 05:11, 15 Apr 2005 (UTC)
If it stands for "Known for Radio Clearness" then why is it so surprising the channel had such a wide reach? Using "however" seems a bit wrong in this context. Mgm|(talk) 09:56, Apr 15, 2005 (UTC)
50 watts?
[edit]- Along those lines, there seems to be something funny about the 50 Watts reaching New Zealand claim. 50 Watts would be barely enough to serve the city. Early powerful AM stations often had 50,000 or even 100,000 Watt outputs - and if atmospheric conditions were right I suppose these could reach New Zealand. But not 50 Watts. I'd check to see if maybe the number isn't off by 3 orders of magnitude (i.e., somebody dropped a "k" somewhere). Fawcett5 13:24, 15 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Regarding 50 watts, I had the same reaction when I was writing the story. However, the mysteriously low number came from 2 sources, and was actually explained. The early signal was on 1230 AM, and is not the one they went into long-term use with on 610 AM. They also had a favorable location for the antenna. A big problem with AM is other signals, which may not have been as much of a problem back then.

"The station itself is a new departure in broadcasting units. It is not a high powered station. It is rated as a 50 watt station, but of the Western Electric type, which guarantees a high degree of efficiency. Radio engineers and the Radioart Studios personnel determined on the low power, perfectly tuned unit as preferable to the high powered sets which cause interference. The Government at Washington is watching the work of KFRC with considerable interest in view of the coming conference as it is believed that such units will form a solution of the present broadcasting congestion." "The transmitter itself was a fifty watt unit, the latest Western Electric design. The only other one like it was in St. Louis, where it was said to "pound into New York like a local. The relatively low-powered transmitter was said to be preferred by the station engineers because it would cause less interference and yet deliver almost equal signal strength because of its superior circuit design." I am posting all this to the article's TALK page, and will do some more research as well. Maybe we can learn more. Thanks. Vaoverland 16:18, Apr 15, 2005 (UTC)
Along the Towpath
[edit]Salve, Vaoverland!
I was just about to send you a message, but wanted to check my watch list first. Who's on top of it but you for your edit to WLW. Hmm. I just put a new article of mine, the Warren County Canal on WP:PR here and wonder if you might look it over as you've done so much on transport articles. Thanks in advance. Ave! PedanticallySpeaking 18:09, Apr 15, 2005 (UTC)
Vaoverland,
I'm about a quarter mile from the WLW transmitter right now. I put in a redirect for Powell Crosley, which is what I'd erroneously used in my Voice of America Bethany Relay Station article. As for Richmond, my dad, he's from Centerville. PedanticallySpeaking 18:24, Apr 15, 2005 (UTC)
Vaoverland,
Thanks for your comments re the canal. I did type all of this on-line directly to Wikipedia today. I researched the material in books at the library and in some of my own volumes, then composed it from my notebook. I have composed somethings off wikipedia and moved them over, but usually only when Wikipedia isn't working properly or is down. As for photos of the canal, doubtful there would be any. It was out in the middle of nowhere back in the 1830s-1850's. I've not seen any in the books I consulted.
As for Mr. Crosley, I know the name from being from SW Ohio but I don't know much about him. I'll look around and see if there's anything about him in my books or at the library. Ave! PedanticallySpeaking 18:52, Apr 15, 2005 (UTC)
Stonewall Brigade
[edit]As I was doing some editing on this article, I found it to be a direct copy from the website http://stonewall.hut.ru/leaders/stonewall_brigade.htm
Do you know whether the copyright was cleared on this? The website refers to an Encyclopedia of the Confederacy as the source, which seems to be a 1993 book. Perhaps in the ".ru" domain they don't worry about copyrights. Hal Jespersen 23:09, 15 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- That looks like sloppy work on my part. I think it was done when I was working on another article, perhaps about Barnard Bee. In any event, the first 3 paragraphs were definitely not acceptable. I have watered it down and added teh sources for the rest of the information, also sloppy work not having already included them. Thanks for catching this, as I believe you and I both want good stuff only in these WP articles. Could you review and see what else could/should be done? I will also do a little more work on it. Thanks. Mark in Richmond. Vaoverland 23:37, Apr 15, 2005 (UTC)
I guess it's OK as far as it goes, but I think an article about a military unit should include its full history, including battles/campaigns, names of all the commanders, and the constituent units. This one is almost still in the stub stage. Let me know if you'd like me to take a shot at it. Hal Jespersen 23:48, 15 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- Please take the ball and run with it on Stonewall Brigade. I enjoy writing about people and places, but battles and military units are prett much outside my strengths and interests. Thanks! Mark Vaoverland 23:54, Apr 15, 2005 (UTC)

He has done some outstanding map creation work for other transportation article and also found image sources when I couldn't. However, if you can give him good information, maybe even a handdrawn map if possible, he may be able to create something nice for the article. I encourage you to communicate directly with User: SPUI I am having some computer broadband problems, so can't be on as much as usual. I will copy this message to both of you. [edit]Crosley Jr
[edit]There are a bunch at [3]. Many are undated; you could email the webmaster to ask about dates. There's a decent one from 1922, or any post-1923 could probably be tagged {{fairold}}, as anything published before 1964 had to renewed to stay in copyright, and it's unlikely that any of these have. [edit]WelL MarK:
You have just scooped me big time with your articles on August Leimbach and the Madonna of the Trail. I've been putting together the story for a while now and was waiting to hear back from some DAR insiders as well as trying to locate a copy of Bauer's book. I'm also in contact with Leimback's grandson [great-grandson], trying to find out more about what other works AL did.
But that is okay. Life is good. I will post a couple of my pictures of the Madonna - perhaps even replace your lead shot with one that i think is better. Or toss it up there and you be the judge. So, congratulations on not just one but TWO fine articles. To which I shall be making some adjustments. Carptrash 06:02, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC)
from Einar
[edit]Please excuse my whingeing about the Madonna and Leimbach. it was just a bit of a shock to see them on wikipedia. Your articles incorporate about all that I was able to find and I shall pitch in what else i have. I seem to have lost [at least 10 minutes of looking didn't locate them] my recent pictures from Albuquerque, but they will surface soon enough - i hope. Say, Marcus, you must be up late. improvement
[edit]Firts of all, you are a sweet son. secondly - yes, let's improve, improve, improve. Isn't that wikipedia's motto? I am getting sidetracked by Alice Cooper, [not that one,] the sculptor who created the Sacajawea state that Moss supposedly was inspired by. I have a book [in fact, a library] called America's Indian Statues and it includes a picture of that one and it really is not much like the Madonna. She is carrying a child [on her back] but other than that, not much. But isn't that how these things always work? One leads to another and before you know it -you can be miles away.
Hunter McGuire
[edit]Nice article on McGuire . . . . . . . . . . ..............ecxept to tell a sculpture researcher about a statue and then not say who the statue is by is asking for editing.
Fortunately I have a copy of "An American Sculptor on the Grand Tour: The Life and Works of William Couper [1853 -1942]" so I can remedy that. I will highly recomend myself, however, for all your future sculptural historical needs. Carptrash 07:49, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit]Sure, Mark:
I'd appreciate your spending the 3 [7 if you need it] minutes needed to spruce up my message delivery system.
If you give me the name of the person that the statue is of I'll see if i can figure out the details. I know from past poking around that Richmond has some thing called "Monument Row" and that it has been somewhat contraversal. At that time I tried to find a book or pamphlet or printout or something/anything on it and was not able. However toss me a couple names and I'll see what I can do. I'll bet there is a RE Lee there, for example, so I'll begin with him.I still have not discovered my Albuquerque Madonna pictures, which is annoying because they are my most recent ones and i took a bunch on a nice sunny day. Oh well. Carptrash 23:43, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Here is where I am
[edit]before reading your message. Okay: So my starting point is Widener's book "Confederate Monuments: Enduring Symbols of the South and the War Between the States." Unfortunately, widener does not inclide the sculptors in his inventory, so . . . . . . . it becomes a matter of just tracking things down. Here is some of what i discovered.
Robert E. Lee Monument, on Monument Ave is by Marius Jean Antonin Mercie, [1854 – 1916] The architects of the base was Paul Pujol
The sculpture was exhibited in Paris before being dismantled and shipped to Richmond. It was the first statue constructed on Monument Avenue.
General Thomans Stonewall Jackson. Monument Avenue, Richmond, VA The sculptor was Frederick William Sievers, who turns out to be:
1. someone that I am not familiar with, 2. and also the sculptor of the Matthew Fontaine Maury Monument on Mon Ave

monumental undertaking
[edit]What I am discovering is that there should be a "Monuments " section tacked on to the bottom of at least the Lee, Stuart & Jackson articles. Up until now I have just written about nouns -persons/places/things- that I have pictures of. This is different, Years ago I was driving through Pennsylvania for work [that was when I had a job] and spent a 12 hour day at Gettysburg, running around photographing all the monuments that caught my eye. it was an amazing day - but a couple years later my album of those 100s of pictures went AWOL and has not reappeared. This might give me the motivation to try and find the negatives and reprint the series. Until then, though, perhaps a list of memorials to those three gents would be a start. I have already posted one picture of Jackson at my Charles Keck page. I ALWAYS think of statues as being about the sculptor rather than about the person that they represent. might seem backward, but . . . . . . . .......... Carptrash 14:54, 26 Apr 2005 (UTC)
So what is this karmic connection we seem to have ?
[edit]I have spent a good part of toady searching, not for my "Madonna of the Trail" photos, but rather for my one room school house photos. The first house I ever owned was a converted Greek Revival one room school house, built in 1854. I found some old photos of it at an historical society and took pictures of them. Now I can't find them. Howevr i will post a shot of it as it was in, say, 1980 or so when I lived there. What are you going to do next, Kodaikanal ? Carptrash 02:04, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)

User 68.46.167.169
[edit]68.46.167.169 is doing some minor vandalizing. Can You look into it? Feydey 18:54, 6 May 2005 (UTC)
- I have reverted all the changes made up to Druid, just thought if a short ban would work. It seems there are no changes made lately, so all is ok. Feydey 19:25, 6 May 2005 (UTC)
- Sorry to bother again, but Special:Contributions/66.57.105.182 has a long list of vandalizing behind... Important edits seem to be reverted. Feydey 20:17, 6 May 2005 (UTC)

Blocking
[edit]Whatever you do, never block IPs permanently. I haven't used range blocks, so you'll have to block any vandals one at a time.
Block new IPs as they come up, but be sure it is BLATANT vandalism before blocking, otherwise messaging on their talk is the best way to go.
As for blocking, it's really simple. 1) Go to Special:Blockip 2) Make sure the IP isn't listed in an AOL range. 3) Type the IP in the box labelled user 4) Provide a reason for the block, being as clear and explaining as much as possible.
If you drop a note with the vandal IPs I can help out with the blocking. Mgm|(talk) 20:50, May 6, 2005 (UTC)
- Hi, Mark, I see you already got the info you needed. Talk to ya later. Niteowlneils 21:11, 6 May 2005 (UTC)
I see you already got your advice on blocking while I was napping. I'll just add to my 2c to reaffirm: if it's outright vandalism and the user is on a rampage (and not an AOL range), just block for 24 hours and then leave a note so the vandal knows that he was blocked and why. If you have more time, warn the vandal first, then block after the next vandal edit. I usually say something like:
- Please don't vandalize Wikipedia. If you persist, you are subject to being blocked from editing, beginning with a 24-hour block. -- Cecropia | explains it all ® 13:38, 7 May 2005 (UTC)
And another admin chimes in after only just seeing the note. You must have left your note on my talk just after I had logged out for the day. slambo 17:09, May 7, 2005 (UTC)

Traveller
[edit]Euthanized, huh? Sure... :-)
BTW, I did that page as a joke, modeled after all the other biographies I've worked on. I hope you enjoyed it. Hal Jespersen 23:43, 6 May 2005 (UTC)
Well, the intent may have been a joke, but Traveller is almost as much a legend as Lee, and far less controversial. Isn't an injured horse being shot a form of euthanizing? If not, we should change it back. I (for one) did enjoy your article. I am surprised that our racially sensitive city hasn't renamed the Robert E. Lee monument on Monument Avenue here "Traveller and a unamed rider" (or worse) Mark in Richmond Vaoverland 23:53, May 6, 2005 (UTC)
- Yes, you're correct, of course. It was euthanasia, although I wonder if a 19th century guys would have said it. Don't change it back. BTW, I noticed you have info above sculptors on Monument Avenue; that would be appropriate info in any relevant bio article, I'd think. Hal Jespersen 00:22, 7 May 2005 (UTC)

- My dad tells this story about a Dad who used to take his son on walks in the park and show him the statue of Chinese Gordon. So after several visits the son finally say "Dad, I have a question." "Yes son." "Well, who is the man on Chinese Gordan?" The joke is that Chines Gordan, also known as "Gordon of Khartoum" [or whatever] WAS the rider. Same thing - - - - but different. Re: Alonzo Sargent
[edit]Thanks for the pointer to this article. There's so much in it that deals with the accident, and so little with the engineer's life that it's not really a biography article and should probably be moved to something like Hammond circus train wreck or something that more appropriately describes the article's contents. I would work on it now, but I've got some Mom's Day stuff to take care of before dinner tonight. slambo 17:12, May 7, 2005 (UTC)

Although I didn't try to do this, I assumed that step 1 was not possible for a mortal. I have been able to move files in the past, not delete them. The Nation of Islam article sugar coayts the goups racist nature
[edit]This article is so soft in its treatment of the racist nature of the NOI, it is not so much an objecvtive article as a pro NOI propoganda piece, intended to whitewash the racist nature of this organization. The Nation of Islam is and has always , and is internationally acknowledged as, a hategroup. This is not something peripheral to the organization or limited to a few extreme members - it is the organization's raison d'etre. I am reporting the article in its entirety to the ADL, the Southern Poverty Law Center, and several other reputable, main stream watch dog groups who are comitted to challenging this sort of propoganda.
- I think those organizations are well aware. I have tried to maintain a NPOV, and make sure such accusations (as properly attributed) get equal hearing with those would would delete factual statements. I personally find it offensive that LK's messengers walk through traffic apparently avoiding cars with white and Hispanic people in them, at least here in Richmond, but such seems to be the price of freedom: tolerance. I don't doubt that other groups would treat them the same way. I am sad to say I remember separate (and far from equal) restrooms and accomodations and families of color afraid to travel through Virginia at night (I pumped gas in the 1960s). I have been on referee break, but I'll take a fresh look. If you are able, how about leave a user name with messages, and make more of a difference than just an anonymous complaint. Vaoverland 03:45, May 14, 2005 (UTC)
- Hi 'Vaoverland' - I very much appreciate your civility and taking the time to respond. I must ask however - what does 'LK' stand for? Did you mean to say 'LF' (as in 'Louis Farrakhan')? Also, on the NOI talk page you mention wanting to put toghether a 'good WP artilce'. What is 'WP'? Thanks!
WikiEditor 09:40, 14 May 2005 (UTC)
- You are correct: I meant LF! WP is Wikipedia. Vaoverland 09:43, May 14, 2005 (UTC)

Image Tagging
[edit]I understand that you're going to be away for a while, so I won't be bothered if you delay in acting on this for a while. However, at some point you will have to address images Cbbt.png and Cbbt bridges at north end.jpg. Both of those images are related to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, but more importantly, both are without an image tag and specific source information. You may have a case for listing the first one as {{logo}}, but I don't know what to do with the second. If you took it yourself, you can use {{GFDL}} to license it under the GFDL, or you can use {{PD-self}} to place it into the public domain. For now, the images are both considered {{unverified}}. If you need help dealing with this, post a message to my talk page. Superm401 | Talk 20:09, May 22, 2005 (UTC)

Hi Mark, I notice an anon editor has slapped a copyvio tag on some text you added to the Seaboard Air Line Railroad article. To me it looks like the other site may be mirroring us rather than the other way around, I know you are too experienced a wikipedian to have put in copyvio material, but perhaps you could take a look and sort out what is what... SS Andrea Doria - image question
[edit]I am thinking of nominating the article for FA pretty soon, but there is an image of the wreck with a tag noting that the copyright is questionable. I talked to the person who uploaded it and I was told that the image was seen on a website for "classic liners" (greatoceanliners.net I believe), though the status of the copyright is unknown. However, the image looks like a work by Ken Marshall (I am familiar with his paintings of the Titanic and its sinking).
Hence, I would like your opinion concerning this matter before I proceed with the nomination. Thanks. Pentawing 04:50, 21 July 2005 (UTC)
- I moved the questionable image to the talk page until someone can confirm the image's copyright. In the meantime, I am nominating the article for FA. I am hoping that the nomination process doesn't encounter major problems, but that is being optimistic. Pentawing 22:20, 30 July 2005 (UTC)
