Phil Esposito wore #77 with the NY Rangers because #7 was recently used by Rod Gilbert and the Rangers were not ready to give the number out again. Eventually they retired #7 in honor Gilbert. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.184.247.66 (talk) 23:44, 9 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
