Expanding out of starter page classification
[edit]I was the one who originally expanded this page from a stub, and was a little surprised when I saw it classed as a Start-Class page. To that effect, I'm going to massively expand it again. Please edit and add! Wouldn't it be great to have a top rated article on Bridgewater? DB142.167.173.31 (talk) 03:26, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
Updated
[edit]I've gone ahead and reorganized the article, adding new, referenced sections and a lot of new information. The only other section I wanted to add was on town governance, but I'm unable to find much information on the town website. If anybody else is familiar, please add a section.
Some things to fix:
- References: I simply cannot get the list at the bottom to update. If anybody knows how, please go ahead.
- Adjacent Communities: there is some talk on Project Nova Scotia of adding this to provincial wiki pages. I'm unsure as many neighboring Bridgewater communities don't have pages (Hebbville is the only one, I believe). Thoughts?
- Picture: We need a good picture of the town! An aerial photograph would be fantastic, but I don't know if there are any open ones. I could take a picture on Saturday, but being as it's the middle of winter, it probably won't look good enough for the front page. DB
142.167.164.192 (talk) 04:28, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
- The article is close to "C" class, but I'm not changing the rating today, mostly because it lacks inline citations/referencing. PKT(alk) 13:16, 6 November 2010 (UTC)
Town water
[edit]As a long term resident of Bridgewater, I -must- emphasize that I am not exageraing about the poor quality of the town water. I've lived in many other communities across the martimes, and nothing has even come CLOSE. Even living in Sydney, just a short hop from the infamous Sydney Tar Ponds has not produced anything even remotely as vile.
- To that, I can concure, except for Liverpool Municiple water, which is indeed worse. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.222.154.100 (talk)
- Possibly the result of high levels of iron in the water? Or poor water management by the town? Twinchester 20:27, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
General NPOV
[edit]Saying that the coming of Wal-mart is 'unfortuate for the town' is not particulary NPOV. I'm sure that the executives at Wal-Mart would disagree. I'm not saying that I don't agree with the comment, but it doesn't conform to the WP:NPOV. Please note that I am only using the Wal-mart comment as an example. There are other sections that don't comply with the WP:NPOV. --Krapehtta 04:28, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
Sources
[edit]Please include sources with any information that you add as per WP:Cite. There are a lot of inconsistencies here too (specifically population numbers). Some good sources would help clean to those up. --Krapehtta 04:44, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
First House
[edit]Although he didn't build the first house in the original town, Adam Heb / Hebb built the first house in what is now the town on or near the LaHave River at Hebb Brook. Adam died in 1803.
Mayor
[edit]People popping in and changing the name of the Mayor is getting irritating. If in doubt, look here: http://www.bridgewater.ca/town-council/mayors-welcome.html
Proposed town-wide smoking bylaw
[edit]Just doing some recent reading now that i am back in the area about the no-smoking bylaw within the town limits. Methinks this should be added and tagged as a current event subject to change. AnthonyWalters (talk) 19:51, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
Cleaning up
[edit]I've gone through and cleaned up a lot of the wording, and condensed the links, making the article more NPOV and easier to read. Please change things I've missed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.11.99.95 (talk) 08:09, 25 December 2010 (UTC)
Bridge
[edit]The three brothers-in-law (George Heb, John Weil and John Vienot), commissioners for the construction of the first bridge, were related through the Heb family (name later became Hebb). John Weil (name later became Wile) married George's sister Catharina and John Vienot married George's sister Magalena. (Adam Heb, father of Geoprge, Catharina and Magdalena, built the first house in what is now Bridgewater (but not the first house in the original town as incorporated).) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hebbgd (talk • contribs) 13:59, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
can't find room for this - pic of 1899 fire
[edit]From the British Library collection now on Commons:
. So much directory-style content about new development and modern changes, the history section is kinda brief, and this pic would have to be in that section, which now is up next to the infobox.Skookum1 (talk) 08:25, 7 July 2013 (UTC)

Huge clean up
[edit]This page has gotten mighty unwieldy over the years, full of boosterism and POV, and flowery descriptions that really have no place on Wikipedia. To that end, I've gone through and reorganized and cleaned it up, and updated stats. If you see any typos, please catch them — Preceding unsigned comment added by Profe DB (talk • contribs) 04:59, 29 August 2020 (UTC)
- Hello @Profe DB: - I notice that three references to https://lighthousenow.ca/ don't have any apparent connection to the text, they are bare URLs, and they require signins. It appears to me that they should all be replaced with something more relevant, and they should at least be removed. As you've been working on a clean-up of the article, I'll let you have first shot at the best course of action. Cheers, PKT(alk) 17:42, 30 August 2020 (UTC)
@PKT: Maybe you can provide some advice - I beefed up this section by looking through the archives of the local newspaper of record for articles and dates - that archive does require a subscription, which I have. Should I save these particular articles to an image sharing website, and link from there? Advice appreciated! Edited to add: after reading a guide on what to cite, I've realized that many of the things I'm attributing do not really require it (dates that something opened, etc.) I'll clean that up.
