Provisional designations for minor planet.
Re: User talk:Hike395#Minor planet nomenclature.
- Hi! To answer your question about systematic names for minor planets: for each fortnight, they number them, in order A through Z, then A1 through Z1, A2 through Z2, ... A10 through Z10 ... A100 through Z100.
- So, if you see something like GD194, that means they've seen at least 194*26 apparitions in those 14 days. The automated discovery systems are quite remarkable, really. Just one system (LINEAR) has been discovering ~40000 a year (~1500 a fortnight). I'm not sure if we're going to see 26000 per fortnight, though (for three digits). -- hike395 14:34, 25 Feb 2004 (UTC)
- This information is now available at Provisional designation.
Acute.
Hi, I just saw your comment at User:Jesus is Lord!/namechange where you were wondering if the accent in your name would be allowed. I'm fairly sure it is, but it might be useful to make a redirect from User:Jeandre to help people get to your page when they don't know how to type é. Angela. 18:00, Apr 8, 2004 (UTC)

2004 SA election NA prov seats.
Thanks for your additions to South African general election, 2004. Are you able to give me a breakdown of the number of National Assembly seats won by each party for each province? (I don't mean for the provincial legislatures). Adam 00:08, 22 Apr 2004 (UTC)
- Reply at [2].
- Thank you, but I already know that - it's the same data available at the IEC website. What I want is the number of seats won by each party in each province. Adam 00:10, 23 Apr 2004 (UTC)
- He found the stats.
Cat sort.
Just wondering, are you intending to fix the whole Category:Lists of television series episodes ? It did sort by name before BTW -- User:Docu, 2004-06-09t23:55z
Global protests against war on Iraq articles merge.
Re: Wikipedia:Duplicate_articles#G
- I see you've elected to merge Global protests against war on Iraq with Global protests against war on Iraq (pre-war), provided someone explains how to credit the editors of the article that is turned into a redirect. I've never actually done this, but if you want to give credit, you can provide a link on the talk page to the dead article's page history. --Smack 23:23, 3 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Username edit history merging.
Hi Jeandre. Do you still want the edit history from User:I am Jack's username merged with yours? If so, can you please log in as the old user and confirm on Wikipedia:Changing username? Thanks — Kate Turner | Talk 09:10, 2004 Sep 5 (UTC)
- Confirmation message. -- Jeandré, 2004-09-05t10:36z
- Hi Jeandre. Edits from User:I am Jack's username have now been reattributed to you. Your other requests are still pending and should be done soon. Regards — Kate Turner | Talk 07:17, 2004 Sep 6 (UTC)
- Thanks note. -- Jeandré, 2004-09-06t20:24z
Cape Town meetup.
Re: [3]
- hi jeandré, meetup is down at the moment so I'll just leave a message here
- november 28 sounds fine, I'll check with Tim - for smaller meetup groups having coincidental meetings is probably a good idea, I'm sure there'll be enough overlap of interests — d@vid (Kwill | Talk) 15:25, Nov 14, 2004 (UTC)
- Moved from 2004-11-21 to 2004-11-28. It's actually an hour before the bookcrossing meetup. — Jeandré, 2004-11-14t21:15z
- Good suggestion jeandré - I'm a little pressed for time these days with a young child, so can't really make a regular time, but I'm happy to collaborate online. Greenman, Nov 29, 2004
South African collaboration of the week.
Hello, this is just a brief, friendly announcement to let you know that there is now a South African Collaboration of the Week where we vote every two weeks to select an article about South Africa that is either a stub or nonexistent and attempt make it featured article quality by the end of the week. Your comments, voting, and participation would be very welcome! PZFUN 17:30, 25 Nov 2004 (UTC)
The humungous image tagging project.
Hi. You've helped with the Wikipedia:WikiProject Wiki Syntax, so I thought it worth alerting you to the latest and greatest of Wikipedia fixing project, User:Yann/Untagged Images, which is seeking to put copyright tags on all of the untagged images. There are probably, oh, thirty thousand or so to do (he said, reaching into the air for a large figure). But hey: they're images ... you'll get to see lots of random pretty pictures. That must be better than looking for at at and the the, non? You know you'll love it. best wishes --Tagishsimon (talk)
Cormac Lawler wikipedian questionnaire.
Emailed answers (changed quoted links to inline links, see drafts for more links):
When did you become aware of Wikipedia?
Shortly before creating an account.
Why did you become involved in Wikipedia?
My first logged edit was on 2002-12-20; before that I may have done some editing sans account.
Why did you become involved in Wikipedia?
The anarchism of wiki and the audacity of creating an encyclopedia with it appealed.
Have you participated in another collaborative online community and, if so, how is it different?
I use to work on a few categories at the Open Directory Project, which focused on links, not content.
How do you rate Wikipedia as a collaborative project, as compared to, say, slashdot or everything2?
I've had an account at Slashdot since at least 2000, and its lack of "memory" bothered me, with arguments and questions repeated and very little constructive coming from it. k5's edit queue was better. I contributed some articles to the original h2g2; and I created an e2 account, but never contributed anything there. Wikipedia is what I was looking for all along.
Comment on the nature of your involvement in Wikipedia, ie. is it mostly editing, monitoring, discussing, researching?
Mostly copy-editing, and I also closely monitor the articles on my watchlists. I used to translate for the Afrikaans wikipedia, and am now working on some of the English sister projects.
What features do you like/dislike about Wikipedia?
The article version comparison is good, but needs more fine tuning.
What features do you think are essential to Wikipedia?
Page history, the number of editors, and the future "sources" namespace.
What's your opinion of Wikipedia's contribution to society?
Ask me again in 20 years.
What have you learnt from Wikipedia?
Lots of trivia; that wikiwiki is pretty amazing; and, while doing research for astronomy articles, that science news reporting in popular media is quite poor.
Clarifications.
Is "article version comparison" the page history function?
Yes, where you can find the differences between versions.
And what is the future "sources" namespace?
See Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Fact_and_Reference_Check#References_namespace for the *proposal* to have a page for sources for every article, similar to talk pages for every article. It hasn't been decided on yet.
Article licensing.
Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 1000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:
- Multi-Licensing FAQ - Lots of questions answered
- Multi-Licensing Guide
- Free the Rambot Articles Project
To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:
Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
OR
Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

Old list of wikipedians.
Re: merge into Wikipedia:Alphabetical list of Wikipedians.
- for merging the old list of wikipedians. It's not the most glamourous job, but the janitorial things need to be done too. --fvw* 22:51, 2004 Dec 12 (UTC)

Re: User_talk:Fredrik/Archive#Sources_namespace_idea.
