Much of this page was written from memory - I worked with the Atari professionally at NASA in the early 1980's, and was very fond of OSS products. I realize that more references are needed.
This is my first shot at a Wikipedia article - be gentle, Mable. :-)
Does anyone know what became of OSS?
In Jan 1988, ICD and OSS merged. That was the official announcement. What really happened was the authors and/or rights holders to BASIC XL/XE, Mac/65, Action, etc. sold their interests to ICD. So the products were no longer being developed by ICD or OSS. OSS ceased to exist. --Pelladon 18:18, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
Actually, so far as I know, the only author who negotiated separately with ICD was Steve Lawrow. We did simply sell our rights (and inventory and mailing lists and the key to the rest room) to ICD. -- Bill Wilkinson 24 May 2006

Did OSS make any products for the Apple II ?
[edit]Now that I have created a new article Shepardson Microsystems and moved the pre-OSS material to that article, I'm wondering if this article shoud mention the Apple II. The only reference to the Apple II comes under OS/A+ in the Atari 8-bit Products section. Was OS/A+ also released for the Apple II as well? Ae-a 21:13, 12 September 2005 (UTC)
- Shepardson did sell Apple II products. OSS bought the rights for both Atari and Apple II products. But it is unclear if OSS continued to sell Apple II software. (This comes from Inside Atari DOS). --Pelladon 21:49, 13 September 2005 (UTC)
- OSS never sold Apple II products. Mostly we just ran out of time and energy, I think. If I recall correctly, I think we even stated we were going to release Apple versions (in the very first KiloBaud ad?? wish I still had a copy of that to check), but we never did. --Bill Wilkinson 24 May 2006
