Many Wikipedia articles are written from the point of view that Iraq is not a sovereign nation but is under US occupation. This is not a "fact", but just a POV.
Many news sources refer to the period of occupation as having ended:
Taipei Times:
- Iraq regained its sovereignty in June [1]
USA Today:
- elections planned for January. Those elections are key to cementing Iraqi sovereignty and beginning the transition from U.S. to Iraqi control over security. [2]
Washington Post:
- the end of June, when the United States passed sovereignty to an interim Iraqi government. [3]
ABC News: Iraqi officials have cited Samarra as an example of how U.S. and government forces can take control of restive towns and cities which became insurgent strongholds after the Americans transferred sovereignty back to the Iraqis on June 28. [4]
Introduction
[edit]I need to rewrite this sometime. Someone feel free to look over my addition to it and make it more - introduction sounding. JG of Borg 16:28, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
