Is "Going Down With Janis" a reliable source?
[edit]A rather large portion of this article's "Personal life" and "Death" sections reference Peggy Caserta's memoir, Going Down With Janis. However, in a 2018 interview with Vulture, Caserta claimed she "didn't write that trash" and that the entire memoir was written by Dan Knapp.
Based on this information, shouldn't any reference to Going Down With Janis be removed from the article?
- No, not every reference to the book should be removed. The article says Caserta denounced it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2603:8000:18F0:410:CCC3:9395:8C90:2F7 (talk) 08:51, 23 May 2023 (UTC)
Wrong Lyon Street house
[edit]I have seen a picture of Janis's drivers license that clearly shows her address as 122 Lyon Street #3 in San Francisco. The picture is widely available on the web and in biographies. However, the house shown in this article (where it is said she lived with Country Joe) is actually the one at 112 Lyon Street. An early biography of Janis printed the address incorrectly and so this explains the mistake. Someone needs to correct this article.
Other reliable sources also support the 122 Lyon Street address. According to this site it is the only one of Janis's San Francisco addresses that appeared in official documentation: https://rockandrollroadmap.com/places/homes-of-rock-and-roll-stars/san-francisco-area-homes-of-rock-and-roll-stars/janis-joplins-apartment-in-san-francisco/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.172.213.218 (talk) 03:08, 9 December 2021 (UTC)
Updated the article and removed the picture of the wrong Lyon Street house. This is a picture of the correct house at 122 Lyon Street. I know this because I have visited the neighborhood and seen on Google Street view. https://www.flickr.com/photos/45009465@N00/2132049277 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.172.213.218 (talk) 06:09, 10 March 2022 (UTC)
- During what year did Joplin live on Lyon Street? Was it during her time with Big Brother? 2603:8000:18F0:410:CCC3:9395:8C90:2F7 (talk) 08:53, 23 May 2023 (UTC)
Laura & Michael Joplin
[edit]Part of the family-cultural legacy left by Janis Joplin to her two younger siblings, was to fund their solid education. Such a thing can be an asset or a burden to surviving younger siblings, - or both. If there is accessible knowledge about how Laura and Michael Joplin think and feel about it today, that knowledge should be discoverable via the article on Janis Joplin. For a start, this can be found about the two of them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJyQ-nxo-LY (1995) and this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CntZBdms26k, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szjDackGaVQ (both 2019). 2003:E3:C71E:AB00:C87F:1494:EB1F:BD8C (talk) 11:21, 21 January 2023 (UTC)
Firing Big Brother
[edit]One wonders what the effect of firing Big Brother had on Janis? Since they were so close and so successful with the Billboard number one album Cheap Thrills, the separation must have bothered Janis (as a betrayal of bandmates) and possibly aggravated her reckless use of drugs and alcohol. Also, was Clive Davis behind the firing? He could sign Janis for the price of one artist, instead of signing six. Funny that Davis is not mentioned in the main article, yet he claims that signing Janis was one of his greatest accomplishments. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.244.137.86 (talk) 19:23, 21 May 2023 (UTC)
Is the article too long?
[edit]I admit to not having read it.. just skimmed down the page and whoa this is a major task to read. The section "1970: January 1970 to October 1970" in particular is daunting. Maybe it needs to be this long, maybe it's a really good article, I don't know it only seems very long. -- GreenC 05:00, 6 June 2023 (UTC)
Unnecessary
[edit]There is much here that is truly unpleasant. Who cares how many times she went to the toilet? 86.17.154.61 (talk) 21:29, 22 July 2024 (UTC)
