[edit]- "The Hammond Professionals" a National Football League franchise, was formed in 1924; the team later moved to Chicago and was renamed "The Chicago Bears".
Can you provide a reference for this? The Chicago Bears page here is saying they were formed in Decatur, Illinois in 1920 as the "Decatur Staleys", moved to Chicago and became the "Chicago Staleys" in 1921, and then became known as the "Chicago Bears" at some point, maybe 1922, maybe between 1922 and 1932. --John Owens (talk) 05:38, 2005 Mar 15 (UTC)
Hammond Professionals
[edit]"The Hammond Professionals" a National Football League franchise, was formed in 1924; the team later moved to Chicago and was renamed "The Chicago Bears".
That is probably inaccurate. There was an NFL team in Hammond with that name in the 1920s, but
There are references on the Web stating similar to what is above. http://www.hammondindiana.com/history2.htm says something similar.
Also found was,
The Hammond Professionals were charter members in both the American Football League in 1920 and the Na-tional Football League in 1922. Many teams came and went quickly, but the Hammond Pros lasted for seven years. When the National Football League made the decision to scale down to twelve teams in 1926, it simply foldedmany of the smaller franchises which included the Hammond Pros, putting an end to the city’s short but memorable chapter in professional football history.
George Halas was a memebr of the Hammond Professionals. That may be where the confusion came from.

Flag and seal
[edit]I think we nead a better image of the city seal and flag. I put those images up, but I know there are better ones. I may go to city hall to take a pic of the flag there. --Kalmia 06:02, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
List of Hammond Mayors
[edit]Can someone develop a reliable list of Hammond's mayors? My history on this isn't so good. I noted that the last edit (reversing my reversal, etc.) to show McDermott as a Democrat is actually correct (my bad)... however, the source I verified this against suggested in 2003 that "Thomas McDermott Jr. will become the city's first Democratic mayor in 20 years..." which, likewise, doesn't square with the list of mayors as we have it in the article right now. Anyone have access to an "authentic and reliable source" against which to compare the Wikipedia list? Xenophon777 16:13, 28 May 2007 (UTC)
Oxbow Lake
[edit]If I am not mistaken, this is a really tiny little body of water, obscure, and highly non-notable. Is this the little cutoff loop of the Little Calumet River between Kennedy and Cline Avenues that's being referred to? I note that the lake has no separate article in Wikipedia. I propose deleting the reference from this article based on notability. Anyone have strong feelings to the contrary? Xenophon777 01:07, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
Public Transportation
[edit]I have added a small blurb on the transit system as I thought it was important for the article. There may need to be more written on it, but I don't think I should write it as it would be non-neutral as I use system on a regular basis (not that I have had bad experiences, I just want to stay within Wiki guidelines WP:NPOV). St. Catherine of Siena school
[edit]Article states "prior to 1949". I believe that there's an error. I lived near the church and school in Hessville, while it was being constructed--and was a member of the first graduating class (1963). I believe that "1949" should be 1959 or so, which fits with my memory. 63.155.121.179 (talk) 17:15, 20 April 2023 (UTC)
- The source agrees with you – it looks like this was a typo in the Wikipedia article. I've fixed it. Thanks for the heads-up! --bonadea contributions talk 12:32, 3 May 2023 (UTC)
