California Capital
[edit]I heard that Independence was the capital of California at one time. Is this true?
Not true. The capitals have been:
* Monterey: 1777-1849. (Capital under Spanish and Mexican rule.) * San Jose: 1849-1851. Statehood voted here. * Vallejo: 1851-1853. * Benicia: 1853-1854. * Sacramento: 1854--present

Independence is the Fruitcake Festival capital of the World! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Heavyrunner (talk • contribs) 01:08, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
I put a link to the Pepsi commercial because it was shot in Independence and the fact that the commercial was shot in Independence is mentioned in the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Heavyrunner (talk • contribs) 11:45, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
Winnedumah closed
[edit]The article contains a picture of the Winnedumah Hotel with the following caption: "The Winnedumah Hotel is a popular rest stop for trekkers when they come down into Independence to resupply. photo Paul Fretheim"
We stopped by today (August 8, 2011) and there was a notice dated July 12, 2011 posted on the front door that the Hotel was closed until further notice. The image probably should just be removed from the article. Alternatively the caption should be edited to indicate that the hotel is closed.
In addition, the caption provides a photo credit. I believe that this is against Wikipedia policy and the credit should be removed if the photograph is left in the article.
