Cluster approach
[edit]I noticed that this page is the only one that mentions the "Cluster Approach" which of course is a very important part of the overall humanitarian reform process. I'm thinking it might be worth cutting the paragraph from this page and creating a stub article on the Cluster Approach based on it. However, that paragraph currently doesn't have a lot of sources. What do you think? Should we create a new page for the Cluster approach? And if so, should I leave the paragraph in or simply reference the new page? Thanks! --Timoluege (talk) 11:20, 23 March 2013 (UTC)
Should we add US on the list due to Hurricae Katrina?SYSS Mouse 20:21, 12 September 2005 (UTC)
- There is actually no clear term for those displaced persons who have been forced from their homes due to a natural disaster. While the Katrina evacuees are certainly internal in the US and are displaced, the "IDP" designation normally only applies to those who would be considered refugees if they crossed an international border.
- The article seems pretty clear on this definition, so I would say either expand the relevant section at displaced person or create a disaster-induced displacement page, or something similar. Cheers, BanyanTree 20:42, 12 September 2005 (UTC)
- I would agree with Banyan. But then we should delete the references to the Tsunami victims as well. I only deleted some reference to the Bush administration, but there should be some distinction made. Dkatten 16:38, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
- I have removed both the refs to the U.S. and Indonesia. Someone who is forced to leave their homes because of a natural disaster is NOT an IDP, as is apparent from the description given both here and in the external links. - BT 04:08, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
- Actually, I just realized that someone had added that natural disasters were included many moons ago and I never noticed. Natural disasters are not covered according to the UN guidelines and should not go here. - BT 04:13, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
- The US Department of Defense Dictionary of Military and Associated Words gives this definition: (DOD) Any person who has left their residence by reason of real or imagined danger but has not left the territory of their own country. Source. It's not specific about natural disasters. --Safe-Keeper 03:28, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
- The ICRC also very clearly includes natural disaster victims in their definition. Source PDF. --Safe-Keeper 03:33, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
- Furthermore, the UN also includes natural disaster victims in their definition (see above PDF, page 7). --Safe-Keeper 03:35, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

Revised Text
[edit]In response to the tags and the comment by Delirium, I have rewritten the article. However, before putting such a drastic changed article up, I am leaving it in my sandbox [[1]] I will wait two days before posting it. If there are any objections, please leave them here. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Joel Mc (talk • contribs) 15:45, 25 October 2007 (UTC) I have tried to change the essay-like language, and rather than updating the table, I have put a link to the an updated table. There are definitely things I would like to add and lots of room for expansion. --Joel Mc 15:59, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

merge to Displaced person
[edit]A refugee is a displaced person. An internally displaced person is also a displaced person. WP:Wikilinks are magic. The terms need to be categorized together into a coherent and cohesive article. Lingzhi ♦ (talk) 05:17, 12 October 2016 (UTC)
- Let's keep this discussion centralised at Talk:Refugee/Archive 2#merge to Displaced person. Cordless Larry (talk) 06:55, 12 October 2016 (UTC)
- Unless you want to treat them as separate cases for discussion? If that's the case, then I oppose this merge for the same reason that I am opposed in the discussion I linked above. Cordless Larry (talk) 07:22, 12 October 2016 (UTC)

Ukraine-Russia war
[edit]This would appear to have placed Ukraine quite high in the list? Have the numbers been changed to reflect this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.66.233.54 (talk) 13:59, 19 April 2022 (UTC)
