Joost Ph.D student in theoretical computer science, living in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. I have obtained a Master of Science in Logic in 2007, after having done a Bachelor of Science equivalent programme in Artificial Intelligence. Interests naturally include the fields of logic and artificial intelligence and related fields such as philosophy (mostly philosophy of mind, philosophy of language and in general the more technical sides of philosophy), mathematics and computer science (mostly the more theoretical aspects thereof). Besides that I also have a strong interest in language and linguistics, on most levels imagineable, in music, and, to a lesser degree, in environmentalism and environmentalist politics.
I believe strongly in a consensus-oriented approach, and strongly dislike the pointlessness of edit wars. If you think one or more of my edits are unjustified, it is appreciated if you approach me on e.g. my talk page: in general there is at least some reason for the changes I make, even for those that (might) appear to be odd.
When writing in English, I try to follow the spelling of the Oxford English Dictionary: thus, I write realize, but colour, metre, and tyre. Also, I am slowly starting to adopt using the serial comma (as could be noted from the previous sentence), but at times having a hard time doing so, due to my native language, Dutch, prescribing not to use it. I care about correct spellings, and often correct mistakes when encountering them on Wikipedia, but at the same time, I have to admit not being a perfect speller myself at all times (those lapses of attention, you know...).
I have a personal home page at http://joostwinter.net/. Feel free to go there if interested. Furthermore, you can reach me by e-mail at the address joostwinter@gmail.com, or through MSN Messenger at the same address (for all my loathing of Microsoft, I have to admit that MSN Messenger still has become pretty much an indispensable tool in my life...). Again, if you believe that I may have something interesting to say to you, or vice versa, don't hesitate to use any of the provided means to contact me.
Finally, allow me to add that I have nothing to do whatsoever with any Internet TV service. The name Joost is a fairly common Dutch first name, and I have simply been lucky enough to be able to register on Wikipedia with my first name as username.
User:Joost/Templates Unicode tables for various writing systems, that I created.
